The cracks, the patinas, the degradation, the fissures, the oxidation of walls and colored plasters become paintings that record the humble splendors of 17th Century Dutch painting. Very much as in a famous “veduta” of Delft, through “a small stretch of yellow wall”, Proust was struck by the revelation of the secret of how a masterpiece is born.
